Glossary of Terms
These are common Abbreviations used when discussing Rights of Way Issues
- LOG=Landrover Owners Group
- GLASS= Green Lane ASSociation, 01656 767264.
- TRF Trail Riders Fellowship
- AWDC = All Wheel Drive Club
- ARC = Association of Rover Clubs
- LARA = Land Access and Recreation Association,
- BBT = Byway and Bridleway Trust
- CC = County Council
- CoCo = Countryside commission
- CCW = Countryside Council for Wales
- DETR = Department of Transport and Regions, (was DoE)
- CLA = Country Landowners Association
- GLEAM = Green lane enviromental action movement, (an anti-access pressure group)
- TRO = Traffic Regulation Order,
- UUCR = Unsealed Unclassified County Road (NB not just unsurfaced or unmetalled)
- TUCR = Tarred Unclassified County Road
- Byway = A minor Public Road, BOAT, UCR, RUPP/v
- BOAT = Byway Open to All Traffic
- RUPP/v = RUPP with Vehicular rights. (RUPPs may have VR depending on evidence)
- BY = DM abbreviation for BOAT
- FP = FootPath
- BW = Bridleway
- HA = Highways Authority
- PROW = Public Rights of Way
- PbCR = Public Carriage Road
- PvCR = Private Carriage Road
- IA = parliamentary Inclosure Award to enclose land,
- FA = Finance Act 1910
- VR = Voluntary Restraint agreed by LARA (or Vehicular Rights, depending on context).
- RT = Ratione Tenuria,(?) maintained by reason of tenure
- Private Road = A road which is privately maintained. ie prescription, tenure, enclosure, dedication. May not have PVR. (Due to ambiguity,
please use the term 'Private use', or 'Private maintenance')
- PVR = Public Vehicular Rights
- White = an uncoloured (un-surfaced) on OS Landranger, often but not necessarily with PVR
- BB = RA Blue Book, now out of print.
- RA = Ramblers Association
- MBB = Making the Best of Byways, a DETR publication for HA's and others showing neglect is not the way to look after Byways.
- 116 = Highways Act 1980 s116 road closure order.
- Tippex = a quasi unofficial procedure used in the past to save many HA's the trouble of a 116
